Dave Bullock

Great post!

Thanks Dave. Know of any?

Since I'm a hip-hop head I will have to roll with the backwards video "Drop" by "The Pharcyde" circa 1995. They are definately one of the best Los Angeles hip-hop acts ever! Video includes shots of the Los Angeles Theater and 5th/Spring (Security Lofts, Charlie O's, and the Alexandria).

Eric: Good one. I remember correctly, that video opens in St Vincents Court.

Good call on the St. Vincent's Court, I was a little unsure of that location. Now the video is even better!

Both filmed on the 800 block of Broadway, a couple of clips from the Clinton Era come to mind. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony filming "Look Into My Eyes", makin' like gangsta gargoyles while atop the Eastern Columbia building. Across the street at the Orpheum, it was Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers, laying down their version of "Heroes" in one of the Orpheum lofts while Godzilla lays waste to downtown.

Due to my strong personal convictions, I wish to stress this selection in no way endorses a belief in the gloved one: Thriller uses the front of Broadway's Palace Theatre, and according to one website, the dance sequence was filmed on Union Pacific Ave, a small street that runs alongside Washington east of Soto.

kelly clarkson's video "the trouble with love" was filmed on my roof while i lived at the alexandria hotel. and they were at it all night, until 4am. thank god i passed out at 3am, they were noisy.

then there was beyonce's "crazy in love" which also filmed on my roof and in the alley behind the alexandria.

here's the same alley and other downtown locations (cole's pre-cedd moses) memorialized in a backstreet boys video:

that's all i can remember off the top of my head, but give me some time and i think i can come up with more.

oh jeez, how could i forget ricky martin's livin' la vida loca video? again, filmed in and in front of the alexandria and the los angeles theater center. they closed down spring that night, as well as 5th street. loved that fake fire hydrant! i think they even borrowed that shot for one of the spiderman films:

Friends of the Los Angeles River was ahead of us, listing songs filmed in the concrete creek we all love. The 6th St bridge appears often.
