• Man One keeps on keeping on. He's been invited to speak at the Getty April 17 in a panel discussion on The Arts in Los Angeles. He writes "Led by Patt Morrison this should be a lively discussion. I'll try and wear my best hat!" Also, Man One appears in this month's Tu ciudad.

Neighborhood Watch: Some Links to start the week

• That's not a fire. It's public art. [curbedla]

• That's not public art. It was a fire. LAFD [East L.A. Inferno] Arts District's Callie Miller was on the scene, stuck in traffic behind the fire.

• Larry Harnisch has been doing his own Main St neighborhood watch at The Daily Mirror and has been looking into the mysteries of the Hippodrome Theater, where a roller rink once stood. As of last week, a large concrete foundation a few feet south of the Hippodrome Theater footprint, was uncovered. It's after the jump.

Well, maybe not so soon . . .

Imgp6486_2 Loads of links and stories are piling up, but the aforementioned in-studio projects, RFPs, and updating the logo/art direction pdf portfolio are taking up more time than expected. There will be a slow building back up to speed over the weekend so in the meantime, have some quick hits after the jump: Pictured: Getting ready for the ImaginAsian Center.

I will rebel and continue to read 12 pt type.

Novels for baby boomers, by baby boomers, will need larger print to accommodate the eyes of an aging demographic, says Jane Friedman, president and CEO of HarperCollins Worldwide. According to the LATimes Shades of gray in fiction:

The California State Library launched "Transforming Life After 50: Public Libraries and Baby Boomers," part of a national effort to remake the country's libraries to better serve an expected wave of active, older readers.

This little fact of life that snuck up on me as early as 2002 with the release of Phaidon's "New Perspectives in Painting". The text is in 5 pt type and clearly was made to leave behind readers older than 35. Other news after the jump.

Some stories to read

_igp0442_2

LAist follows the trail of Pobladores 200. (Meanwhile, some participates got tired of waiting for the Mayor who was to meet up with walkers at Union Station, so they left before the Los Angeles Birthday Carrot Cake was served.)

Filming has more bad  timing as special conditions are being signed off while Downtowners are having more personal experiences with filming, including seeing FilmLA's Geoff Smith on the street during a busy week in the Historic Core. It takes readers to a  primer how to complain. And while it is expected that those pro-film consider Downtowner gripers agitators, it's happening elsewhere.  I always chuckle at the logic of those saying filming will more elsewhere. Comments at 5th and Spring imply that film crews are far from eager to have to film out of town.

The Last to Know: The sale of the New Otani Hotel and Garden and Weller Court hit other publications last week. The  Rafu Shimpo reports that CEO of the Kajima Corporation, Takashi Ito, only meeting with a community member was former president of the LTCC and a board member of the JACCC, Tom Kamei. Speaking for the 21 partners, Ito says nothing else will be said. Not even a press release. [Rafu Shimpo]

The Community Redevelopment Agency has an eye on purchasing hotels that can change the face of afforable housing downtown. According to the Town Crier, Tom Gilmore calls the plan for 'Skid Row 2.0."

El Chavo bends the injured Beckham while recommending L.A. Galaxy games:  "They're usually lots of fun and the riots are kept to a minimum."
