Just as Charles Bukowski is the poet laureate of gritty Downtown, there is room for a painter laureate. Artist Carl Ramsey would be on the short list. With realism and oils, Ramsey shows storylines from the street that allows color to mix with people, some showing no urgency despite being just a few steps ahead of despair. It is a portrait of that part of the city and its people. And you have to like how Ramsey captures Rickey "The Pirate".
BGFA and EVFA jointly feature Ramsey, and there will be an opening reception for him from 5 to 8pm at EVFA (727 S Spring). Other Art Weekend LA exhibitions include PYO Gallery LA with Eun Joo Lee & Shinae Choi, ADC Contemporary Art Gallery's Open Mind, Morono Kiang's presents Beyond Impressions, and Perform Chinatown.
