WHY YELLOW?: Yellow is still the go-to shade for remembering, forgiveness and support of American troops, any many will credit the 1973 rendition of the Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown song for the use of yellow ribbons during the Iran hostage crisis–– and once again during the Persian Gulf war. Others may prefer the image of John Wayne in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" to be the inspiration for strength and courage, not Tony Orlando and Dawn.
