Glass Mouses: On Monday, New York City Opera announced it commissioned Philip Glass to write a new opera about Walt Disney to kick off the 2012-2013 season. It will be the 24th opera by Glass, and it will be based on Peter Stephan Jungk's German-language novel "Der König von Amerika," later published in English in 2004 as "The Perfect American."
The story follows Disney in his final months of his life, through the POV of a fictional Australian animator named Wilhelm Dantine, a staffer who was fired by Disney himself. The book is considered a disturbing, yet still fictitious, view of Disney's obsession to his kingdoms.
Also, it may be the first major work that uses Burbank as background with epic scale.
