Main St Stories: Actor K.J. Rasheed and Actor/Director/Playwright Melvin Ishmael Johnson rehearsing Surviving the Nickel, a play based on the experiences of those living in skid row that will be performed by an ensemble of actors, many who once lived on the streets. A series of 30 minute outreach programs held at 6th and Stratford developed into the play written by Johnson, and his community theater company, Dramastage-Qumran Theater. Funding for the grassroots company comes from grants and donations, and as Johnson adds, qualifies any performance as guerrilla theatre. The 8 pm non-curtain will follow a 7pm reception and be performed as a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday.
And yes, donations are accepted.
