Over in Little Tokyo, "Bobby" sat next to the statue of Chiune "Sempo" Sugihara on a Sunday afternoon. He told me how his only pair of shoes were stolen the night before while sleeping on a street in skid row. "Sometimes, this is the one friend I have." he said of the public art. He asked me what I do, and I talked about this blog. He then told me how his nephew was meeting him to help him out. We talked some more, then I moved on to Little Tokyo Plaza.
There, I saw Man-One and his wife walking to dinner and have some private time and briefly we caught up on the disappearing murals. With a slight resignation in his voice that only a father of three would have, he said, "There are really are more important things in the world than the loss of some murals." I agreed, wished him and his wife well, and headed back to my loft.
By then, I saw Bobby moved on to the corner of 2nd and Central. He also saw me, and said he wanted to pass along a message to "those people who read that blog thing of yours."
"Sure. . . what is it?"
"Have a blessed New Year."
The message is passed on.
